Purchasing a bespoke, high-performance sail is not like ordering a book online. It is a manufacturing process that moves from a reviewed configuration into hands-on sailmaking.
At SurgeSails, we believe that you deserve complete transparency into this process. Our Order Center is designed to eliminate the anxiety of “Where is my sail?” by providing an immersive, visual timeline of your build.
1. Accessing Your Order Center
- Log in to your SurgeSails account.
- Click on your Profile icon in the top right corner and select “My Orders”.
- Here, you will see a list of all your active, historic, and draft projects.
- Click on any active order to open the full Production Tracker.
2. The Production Timeline
The tracker isn’t just a list of text statuses; it’s a dynamic visual journey. As your sail moves through our global loft network, the timeline illuminates your progress.
Stage 1: Specification Review
- What’s Happening: A sailmaker reviews your selected configuration against your submitted ‘I, J, P, E’ measurements, checks the selected materials and options, and prepares the confirmed build spec for production.
- Your Action: Usually none. Occasionally, the review note may request clarification on a rig measurement.
Stage 2: Laser Plotting & Cutting ✂️
- What’s Happening: The massive rolls of your chosen fabric (e.g., Dacron or Racing Laminates) are rolled out onto our automated vacuum beds. A high-precision laser cuts the individual panels, searing the edges instantly to prevent future fraying.
- The Milestones: You will see sub-status updates like [Panels Cut] and [Reinforcement Patches Prepared].
Stage 3: Hand Assembly & Stitching 🪡
- What’s Happening: This is where technology meets traditional artisanship. Our master sailmakers take over. The panels are glued, basted, and then permanently joined using double or triple serpentine (zig-zag) stitching on massive industrial sewing machines.
- The Milestones: You will watch the progress move through [Broadseaming], [Adding UV Covers], and [Installing Hardware like Batten Receptacles and Cringles].
- Tip: This is usually the longest stage in the customized build process.
Stage 4: Quality Control & Dispatch 🔎
- What’s Happening: The sail is fully laid out on the loft floor for a rigorous 20-point inspection. We check every seam, every corner webbing, and verify the final dimensions against your original order. Once approved, it is carefully folded or rolled into its dedicated SurgeSails bag.
- Your Action: Get ready! Your sail is about to ship.
3. Global Shipping & Logistics 🚢
Once the sail leaves our facility, the timeline shifts to logistics mode.
- Live Tracking Integration: You will see a prominent “Track Shipment” button appear. Clicking this connects you directly to the live GPS tracking data of our global courier partners (DHL, FedEx, or specialized marine freight).
- Estimated Delivery Window: A dynamic ETA will be displayed. This adjusts automatically based on customs clearance and international flight schedules.
- Customs & Duties Alerts: If you ordered under Delivery Duty Unpaid (DDU) terms, you will receive a notification here when the sail arrives in your country, prompting you that the local courier will soon contact you for import tax clearance.
4. Post-Delivery: The “First Hoist” Feedback
Our relationship doesn’t end when the box arrives at your marina.
After delivery, your Order Tracker will display a new section: The First Hoist.
- We encourage you to take the sail out, hoist it on a calm day, and take photos of its flying shape.
- You can upload these photos directly back into the Order Center. Our engineers love seeing their creations in action, and if you have any questions about halyard tension or batten adjustment based on how it looks on the mast, you can chat with your Custom Advisor right from this screen.
