Most cruising sails are woven, and Newport is the woven cloth we reach for when a sailor wants better shape than a basic Dacron without crossing over to a laminate.
Newport is a premium woven polyester. It holds shape better than entry-level woven cloth while keeping the two things cruisers value most: it lasts in the sun, and any loft in any port can repair it. It is the all-purpose choice for cruising sails.
Why Woven, and Why Newport
The Newport Range
Newport comes in two lines: All Purpose woven cloth for general cruising, and Pro Radial, optimized for radial-cut sails. Both use Challenge Fiber 104 yarns. The numbers below are the cloth specs the configurator reads from when it sizes your sail.

Advisor Note
If you want more shape-holding than Newport offers and you are willing to trade some durability and cost, step up to a laminate — Baltic UAX or FiberMAX. For most cruisers, Newport is the right balance.
