The mark of uncompromising quality — what the warranty covers, what it does not, and how to start a claim.
At SurgeSails, the warranty starts from the confirmed build spec: the boat record, selected configuration, materials, measurements, sailmaker review notes, and production record.
Because we select quality sailcloth, thread, hardware, and UV-resistant materials, we stand behind our work with our SurgeSails 3-Year Global Craftsmanship Warranty.
1. What Does the 3-Year Warranty Cover?
This warranty protects you against any failure resulting from defects in our manufacturing process or the intrinsic quality of the materials we originally supplied.
Under normal recreational sailing conditions, we guarantee the following for 36 months from the date of delivery:
- Structural Integrity of Seams: Complete failure or unraveling of structural stitching (excluding thread degradation demonstrably caused by severe, unprotected UV over-exposure).
- Hardware & Fittings: Severe rusting, catastrophic yielding, or detachment of stainless-steel O-rings, pressed cringles, headboards, and batten receptacles.
- Laminate Delamination: For our high-performance composite racing sails (Radial Laminates), we cover catastrophic delamination (the separation of the Mylar film from the internal scrim/taffeta) not caused by improper folding (creasing) or exceeding the sail’s design wind range.
- Hardware Installation: The tearing out of corner webbing, batten pockets, or leech line cleats under normal aerodynamic loads.
2. What is NOT Covered? (The Exclusions)
A sail is a consumable engine exposed to a violent environment. The following scenarios are considered “wear and tear” or “operator error” and are unfortunately excluded from our free warranty coverage:
- Chafe and Friction Damage: Holes, tears, or wearing thin caused by the sail rubbing against your boat’s rigging (spreaders, shrouds, stanchions, radar domes, or the mast itself). This is why we strongly recommend purchasing our Protection Options (Spreader Patches).
- UV Degradation: Natural weakening, fading, or tearing of the sailcloth or stitching directly resulting from the sail being left exposed to the sun without a UV Cover or sail bag over long periods.
- Wind-Range Overloading: Tears or blow-outs caused by flying the sail in wind speeds or sea states that explicitly exceed the maximum safe threshold designated for the fabric weight you selected in the configurator.
- Improper Handling & Stowage: Damage caused by dragging the sail over docks, snagging it on sharp objects (like boat hooks or split pins), or storing it wet (which leads to mildew).
- Extreme events and contamination: Damage resulting from storms, lightning strikes, improper storage conditions, or contamination outside normal recreational use.
3. How to Claim Your Warranty
If you experience an issue covered under this policy, SurgeSails is committed to resolving it swiftly so you can get back on the water.
- Document the Issue: Take clear, well-lit photographs of the damaged area, including a wide shot showing the sail’s overall condition, and a close-up of the failure point.
- Submit a Request: Log into your SurgeSails Portal, navigate to “Order History,” select the specific sail, and click “Submit Warranty Claim.” Upload your photos and a brief description of how the failure occurred.
- The Resolution Pathway:
- Local Repair: If the repair is straightforward (e.g., a popped seam or a loose ring), we will authorize you to take the sail to a local loft in your marina. You pay the loft, send us the receipt, and we will reimburse you 100% of the repair cost.
- Return to Base: For complex issues (like panel delamination), we will issue a pre-paid FedEx/DHL shipping label. You box up the sail, and we will repair it at our central facility and ship it back to you—all at zero cost.
- Full Replacement: If our engineers determine the sail suffered a catastrophic structural defect during manufacturing that cannot be safely repaired, we will manufacture and ship a brand new replacement sail to you for free.
SurgeSails Custom Advisor: We engineered this warranty to be as robust as our sails. If you are ever in doubt about whether an issue is covered, please reach out to your dedicated concierge. We always err on the side of the sailor.
