Once the role, handling and dimensions are settled, the remaining fields complete the sail’s structure, markings and working equipment.
The three corners
Head Corner, Tack Corner and Clew Corner select the fittings at the three points from which the sail flies.
The head must suit the halyard or top-down swivel. The tack must suit the tack line, drum or release hardware. The clew should remain light and soft because it passes across the foredeck during a gybe.
Ring size, webbing length, patch layers and tape width scale with area and load. Engineering values are checked during Sailmaker Review rather than chosen as decoration.
Luff, leech and foot lines
The three edge-line fields do different jobs:
- Luff Line carries load between tack and head on a free-flying gennaker. A top-down sail uses its cable instead.
- Leech Line controls flutter along the trailing edge.
- Foot Line controls curl along the bottom edge where required.
Leech and foot lines are fitted and sized where the sail needs them; very small sails may not need both. Their adjusting ends must remain accessible and their tails secured against wrapping.
Tape Color sets the visible edge identification. Tape construction itself follows the sail’s loads and handling system.
Markings and artwork
Add a Sail Number only where the boat carries one. Number colour and size are configured with the size recommendation based on sail area. Sail Label selects the standard label or the applicable measurement label.
Logos and other artwork should be supplied at usable resolution and described in Note. Large applied graphics add local weight and stiffness, so a panel-colour solution is preferable when it can achieve the same result.
Working bag
Choose Bag Type to match the launch and recovery workflow. A Side Launcher is the configurator default; turtle, racing and other bags suit different deck routines.
The bag should agree with the system selected on Handling Systems, particularly where a Stasher or retrieval line must be packed in a known orientation.
Production details
Retrieval-patch construction, release-system lengths, Stasher dimensions, corner webbing and reinforcement are recorded in the production specification after the customer-facing choices have been reviewed.
