A symmetric spinnaker is held at three corners and has no attachment along an edge. Its configuration is correspondingly short.
The three corners
The Head Corner connects to the halyard. The two lower corners are interchangeable: whichever is held by the pole and guy is the tack, and the other is the clew.
Although the configurator presents Clew Corner and Tack Corner, a symmetric sail is reviewed so that both lower corners are built to do both jobs. The fittings must suit the boat’s sheets and guys, while remaining light enough for safe foredeck handling.
Lines and edge finish
The two side edges are built alike because each becomes the leading edge on one gybe and the trailing edge on the other. Leech Line and Foot Line are Pro settings used where the sail’s size and edge behaviour require them.
Patch style, tape width and webbing length are production details. They scale with sail area, fittings and expected load rather than acting as styling choices.
Sail number, label and artwork
Add a Sail Number only where the boat carries one. Its colour and size can be set in the configurator, with the size recommendation based on sail area. Sail Label selects the standard label or the measurement label required for an applicable racing rule.
Logos and other artwork should be described in Note and supplied at usable resolution. Applied graphics add local weight and stiffness to very light nylon, so panel colour is preferable whenever it can achieve the same result. Artwork is confirmed in a proof before production.
A short configuration
A symmetric spinnaker has no reef, luff attachment or furling cable. The items above are the complete sail configuration rather than the start of another system checklist.
The optional dousing system and working bag are covered separately in Dousing Sock & Bag.
